  • 5500xl xenon lamp source

Does anyone know the manufacturer source for the xenon lamp in the SOLiD5500xl? Interestingly, AB gives Part number 4467122 for this lamp in the 5500 operation manual, but this item does not show up in a part number search at the AB order site!

Also, any experience on what the actual useful lifetime of the lamp is or experience with failure or performance reduction?

    Thanks,

I was told It has been available on the website.
Check appliedbiosystem.com and on the very top, click "quick order".

      Lamp

The Lamp comes from Excelitas Technologies and is part of the Cermax Lamps line, part number Y1940.

The default life is 1500 hours in ICS, then it tells you to change it. Our first lamp made it shortly over 2000hours before I got nervous and changed it. It was still working fine, but i did not want to risk it any longer. A normal 35+5bp run will suck ~125hours of life from the lamp and AB sells the new one for $900, I think... I pretty sure that's not calculated into their cost calculator. I wrote to the company about ordering direct and I'll post the price once I hear back from them.

Product is exclusive to Hitachi... Waiting on Hitachi to reply now...

        light source

Hi RickC7- I was wondering if you ever found an alternative source for the light, or if we must go through Lifetech? Thanks!

No sorry, I wrote directly to Hitachi several times but never got an answer back.

I took the old one apart and the lamp itself looks to be identical to the SOLiD4 lamps, just the housing is different. I suppose you could just switch the lamp in the housing, but I don't think it is worth the risk.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
            by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

            Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
            by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
