If we know the definite exon position along the genome, how can we know the exact position of splice-site?

Dear zslee,
I want to know how many base pairs are recognized as splice-site on the border of exon-intron in general |

as for splicing sites, i think at least in protein coding genes it should be exact the exon-intron boundary, because any error may cause frame shift.
i think you want to know the length of sequence of splice site signal, which contain donor site, acceptor site and branch site, GT-AG in 5' and 3' ends of introns is highly conserved and important, there're also some other positions in the boundary that are conserved and important for accurate splicing, in veterbrates the length is about 10-20 bp around the E-I boundary according to my knowledge( anyone can correct me ![]() you can refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splicing_%28genetics%29 and http://bssv01.lancs.ac.uk/ads/BIOS336/336L10.html for more information |
