  • Postdoctoral Fellow (Cancer Genomics/Bioinformatics) - UNSW, Sydney, Australia

    About the role
    • Based at University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia
    • $70,381-$93,840 plus (9.5% Superannuation and annual leave loading)
    • Fixed Term - 18 Months with the possibility of extension
    • Full-time (35 hours per week)


    The role of the Post-doctoral Research Fellow (Level A academic) will be to undertake research projects relating to the study of mechanisms of mutation formation in cancer and the impact of these mutations on cellular function at the Prince of Wales Clinical School, UNSW. These projects build on recent research by Dr Jason Wong’s team described in Nature (https://doi.org/10.1038/nature17437). The successful applicant will carry out computational and bioinformatics data analyses, write research manuscripts and co-supervise research students. There will also be opportunities to undertake experimental research to generate data and test hypotheses, and therefore researchers with experience in laboratory-based research will be highly regarded. The position will be based within the Lowy Cancer Research Centre in the Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics team led by Dr Jason Wong.

    About the successful applicant

    To be successful in this role you will:
    • PhD (or near completion) in Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or a related discipline;
    • Demonstrated experience in the use of scripting languages such as Python, shell script and/or the use of statistical packages such as R;
    • Familiarity with code management and documentation using repositories such as Github;
    • Experience in laboratory-based research will be highly regarded.
