Status: Full-time, Contract (2 years)

The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a post-doctoral fellow in Computational Cancer Biology to join the laboratory of Dr. Paul Boutros. This position involves the analysis of data from a very large ICGC project to study the genomes and transcriptomes of 500 prostate cancer patients. We have generated multiple independent genomic analyses, including RNA-seq and whole genome-sequencing (PacBio and Illumina Hi-Seq). Rich clinical annotation is also available on these samples, and the successful candidate will work in a collaborative team of biologists, computer scientists, and statisticians on the integrative analysis of all these datasets. Projects can include aspects of methods development, pre-processing and univariate statistical analyses, and integrative systems biology. Analysis of these data will be performed on cutting-edge IT infrastructure including a multi-petabyte storage system and a 6,500-core compute farm.

Specific projects can include development of feature-calling methods, techniques for univariate and multivariate biomarker discovery, and systems biology approaches to identify candidate driver genes. We are particularly interested in individuals with RNA-Seq expertise to aid in integration of paired DNA-Seq and RNA-Seq data.

PhD in computational biology, engineering, mathematics, computer sciences or any relevant field;
Experience with next-generation sequencing-data;
Understanding of and ability to extend de novo assembly and RNA-Seq analysis methods;
Statistical background, such as machine-learning, survival or Bayesian techniques;
Strong programming skills (C, R, Perl) in a linux environment;
Software engineering (Agile development, unit-testing, design patterns) is a major asset;
Experience with database-development is an asset;
Knowledge of sequence-analysis, particularly alignment and motif-discovery;
knowledge of molecular and/or cancer biology is a major asset, but not essential;
Team-player, interested in working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment with biologists, computer scientists, statisticians, and clinicians;
Previous postdoctoral training in any of these fields is an asset, but not required.
