  • Scientific Correspondent for the Communications Department

Location: CLC bio headquarters in Aarhus, Denmark

CLC bio is an established world-class bioinformatics software and hardware solutions provider, founded in Aarhus, Denmark, in 2005. We're growing fast and for our communications department we're looking to hire someone with a scientific background, experience within high-throughput sequencing, and a passion for writing.

As we wish to improve our scientific profile in our communication, we are looking for someone who knows sequencing lingo and terms like de novo assembly, transcriptomics, 454, epigenomics, SMRT sequencing, SeqAnswers, and so on. Our new scientific correspondent will be spending a substantial amount of time writing and assisting with scientific publications, drafting best-practice notes, whitepapers, among a lot of other communication assignments that requires a scientific background and experience with publishing in journals.

The right person for this job is someone who loves writing and communicating! Maybe you already contribute to one or several blogs or have experience working as a journalist? Most likely you're also active on twitter as well as other social media channels. Job experience within areas of high-throughput sequencing is a definite plus.

Our new scientific communicator has to be willing to live in Denmark, as this job requires close collaboration with a lot of people at CLC bio's headquarter in Aarhus, Denmark.

    Responsibilities:

    • Writing and assisting with scientific publications
    • Creating whitepapers
    • Crafting text from scratch for on- and offline marketing collaterals
    • Blogging
    • Drafting of press releases
    • Social media

    Minimum requirements:

    • Perfect English skills - especially written
    • Scientific education as a bioinformatician, molecular biologist, or similar
    • Experience working with Next Generation Sequencing
    • Authored or co-authored multiple scientific articles
    • Proactive nature - if you're not self driven, you're not right for the job

    CLC bio offers:

    • A versatile job with a lot of challenges
    • A career in a target market experiencing exponential growth
    • Additional HR benefits
    • Membership of a well-run, respected, and fun young company staffed with creative brains developing, selling and supporting innovative and cutting edge bioinformatics technology solutions world-wide.

We're very much a DIY department, so it's important that you're not scared of getting your hands dirty helping with everything from writing to sending postcards or participating in video production. The good part about that is that you get a very versatile job with many exciting challenges and you’ll rarely have two days alike!

We wouldn't be surprised if the ideal candidate is currently living in a different country than Denmark, but we have good experience relocating and integrating people from other countries to the Aarhus area, where CLC bio's headquarter is located. We expect our new colleague to start as soon as possible – but can also be patient if the right candidate comes by.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
