  • Computational Biologist : Glasgow, United Kingdom

    Computational Biologist

    Ref: M00510

    Salary: Grade 6 £26,264 – £29,541 / Grade 7 £32,267 – £36,298 per annum

Applications are invited from ambitious and motivated post-doc candidates to work with Professor Peter D. Adams to use computational biology and bioinformatics based approaches to study the epigenetics of cell senescence, ageing and age-associated diseases, such as cancer. Applicants must possess strong programming and data analysis skills and familiarity with Python and/or Perl and Linux shell programming. The role will include analysis of large datasets from state-of-the-art approaches, including genomics, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, methyl-seq and other chromatin analyses.

The Adams lab is situated in the new state-of-the-art Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute for Cancer Research. The lab is well funded by CRUK, the Beatson Institute, Glasgow University and the United States NIH. Consequently, the research facilities and academic environment are both excellent and, through collaborative NIH funding, there will be opportunity to work closely with other leading labs in the field, in the United States and Europe. Glasgow is a vibrant and forward-looking European city, situated close to some of Europe’s most beautiful countryside.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
