  • Platform Comparison Table

    Hello,

I am giving a general talk to a room of undergraduates soon. For it I will draw a 5-D (3-D plus color and size of points) graph comparing Illumina, Pac, Oxford and Ion. The purpose of the graph is to be ROUGHLY true - I realize there are dozens of factors, but no one in the room is making either purchasing or research decisions. I just want to show that the decision between platforms is not a simple one. That said, I would like the graph to sort of reflect the realities of these different platforms.

Some of the numbers I can take a stab at; others I have not the foggiest. Could I get a little help? The 20-cell table is editable by the public:
    Sheet1 Instrument,$/Gb,Gb/run,Accuracy Illumina,$900,000,$10,2,500,99% Oxford,$1,000,$50,50,93% PacBio CCS,$350,000,$30,250,99% Ion Proton,$150,000,$30,30,99%

I will, of course, post the graph here when it is done.
    Thanks!!

OK I found some numbers (slide 2 in the below). They only have to be close.
    (you folks think they are?)
Here is how I graphed them: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6m1x26y7sz...phed.pptx?dl=0

      Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
      by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

      Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
      by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
