  • Applications Scientist: DNA sequencing and protein analysis

Oxford Nanopore is seeking an enthusiastic and creative geneticist or genomicist with an excellent track record to join the rapidly-expanding Applications team. The role will suit a candidate with a PhD, or equivalent, and suitable research experience in industry or academia. Applicants should be able to work well under pressure in a highly demanding and fast-paced environment, and to a consistently high standard.

The role is primarily laboratory-based, and responsibilities include the development of methods to enable nanopore technology to be used for a range of sequencing applications including ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, ancient DNA etc. The role may also involve assisting with the development of methods to enable nanopore-based protein analysis.

The ideal candidate is a research scientist who has developed and optimized new applications on current next-generation sequencing platforms. The candidate should have both practical experience and theoretical knowledge of novel experimental design, sample preparation methodologies (DNA isolation, fragmentation etc) and appropriate analysis, leading to new ways of measuring biological phenomena. He / she will have worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team, will have experience of the whole experimental cycle from sample collection through to high quality publication, and will also have performed or coordinated bioinformatics work.

Skills for this role include: familiarity with a wide range of Molecular Biological techniques and DNA manipulation, methods and assay development, expertise in sample and library preparation, PCR and quantitative PCR, Next Gen DNA sequencing, and multiplexing, on the Illumina/Solexa platform, SELEX. Experience in ligand-protein binding and related techniques would also be advantageous.
