Problem generating library for miRNAs from plasma

Hi all,

We've been having a hard time generating a library from plasma miRNA to use with Ion Proton. So far we've tried Life Tech's RNAseq protocol with very poor results, main problem being huge amounts of adapter dimers.

For isolation we use QIAgen's miRNeasy micro kit (miRNA and small RNAs), in the end we get around 2 pg of RNA.

Could anyone suggest a different library prep method? Also, perhaps a better isolation method for a better RNA yield?

We have had good feedback from customers that have used plasma samples with very low inputs since we have been able to significantly reduce the adapter dimer.

I've heard the Exiqon miRCURY RNA Isolation kit works well.
