  • 15th International Meeting on Human Genome Variation & Complex Genome Analysis

The 15th International Meeting on Human Genome Variation and Complex Genome Analysis (HGV2014)

    Where: Belfast, Ireland

    When: 17th-19th September, 2014

    Link: http://hgvmeeting.org

    Abstract deadline: 1st June, 2014

HGV2014 will bring together human geneticists from around the world to explore and share the latest in genetic technology, cancer genetics, population genetics, genomic medicine and more. Topics to be covered include methods/strategies for utilisation of different types of DNA variation (e.g., SNPs and copy number variations-CNVs), functional genomics applications, population genetics, bioinformatics, databases, algorithm development, whole genome/whole exome sequencing and the study of human disease. The meeting will be filled with plenary talks, oral presentations, posters displaying the latest in peer research with plenty of networking opportunities.

    Scienctific sessions include:
    • Human mosaicism & aging
    • Clinical NGS (including cancer genomics and rare disease diagnosis)
    • Epigenomic variation (including that found in the single cell)
    • Large scale population studies (including 100K UK)
    • Data and knowledge sharing/discovery (Global Alliance for Cloud Computing (Genetics))
    • Biomedical informatics
    • Genomic evolution
    • Genomic technological advances

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
