    Research Specialist in Life Sciences
    UIUC DNA Services Facility

    The University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign Roy J. Carver Biotechnology Center's DNA Services Core facility has an opening for two full-time Research Specialist in Life Science to conduct and process next-generation DNA/RNA sequencing libraries and launch runs on sequencing platforms.

    The Proposed Starting Date: As soon as possible after closing.

    Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry, Alternative degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to this position). Two or more years of molecular biology wet lab experience is required. Must be proficient in standard molecular biology techniques and comfortable performing bench work on a regular basis. Candidates must also be knowledgeable in DNA and RNA extraction DNA quality assessment and amplification. RNA reverse transcription and PCR amplification Primer design and troubleshooting of PCR reactions. Effective communication, personal relations, organizational, and team/leadership skills, and attention to detail. Candidates must have demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a diverse and fast-paced work environment consisting of multiple and changing priorities, under minimal supervision. Proficiency in commonly-employed software and databases.
    Preferred qualifications: Masters or PhD in related field. Experience with next-generation DNA and RNA library construction, quality control assessment of next-generation libraries. Experience utilizing robotic automation for sample processing. Hands-on experience using next-generation sequencing platforms. Experience with record keeping of laboratory documentation and inventory control.

    Major duties and responsibilities:
    -Conduct primary analysis of DNA/RNA quality on Qubit, eGel, AATI and Agilent instruments.
    -Perform and analyze qPCR on prepared libraries.
    - Prepare templates for DNA, RNA, small RNA, ChIP-Seq, and other specialized library types, including through robotic automation.
    -Utilize cBOT and on-instrument cluster generation for various Illumina library types.
    -Set up Illumina instrument runs, both paired-end and single read.
    -Analyze real-time run status on all sequencing instruments.
    -Contact technical support to troubleshoot library preps and primary analysis of sequencing runs
    -Organize and accurately enter on a timely basis customer and sample document data into LIMs and shared swap directory.
    -Maintain documentation and development of protocol modification and/or new protocols as requested.
    -Maintain open communication along all steps of the processes with colleagues and supervisors.
    -Other related duties as assigned to further the mission of the unit.

    Type of Position: Full-time Academic Professional with full University benefits package. Salary is commensurate with experience.
