A vacancy has arisen for a Healthcare Scientist/Bioinformatician to work within the Laboratory of Gastrointestinal Pathogens (LGP) at Colindale, HPA - Laboratory of Gastrointestinal Pathogens (LGP). The Laboratory of Gastrointestinal Pathogens (LGP) provides reference services for a wide range of gastrointestinal, and food and water-borne pathogens. The Gastrointestinal Reference Unit (GIRU) receives isolates of E. coli from across the nation for identification and typing. The post holder will work within GIRU as part of an extended research group within microbiology at Colindale.
The successful applicant will be a highly motivated individual seeking to gain experience of translational research with next generation sequence data. The post holder will be required to work as part of a team to:
• Compile in appropriate databases the complex data arising from a grant-funded project to characterize E. coli O157:H7 from humans and cattle
• Assemble bioinformatics tools and pipelines suitable for analysis and comparison of the genome and plasmid sequences generated in the project
• Undertake novel analyses on data arising from the research and development grant
