  • IMG File Naming - Clarification Provided

I am posting this as a resource for others. My question was answered by a staff member at IMG.

My question was as follows: I am trying to collect QC'd sequencing files from a pre-existing project. When I use Globus Connect to navigate through the project IDs associated with the project I find series of 3 project IDs (consecutive) contain mostly identical files, but are in folders with other files that have been treated differently. These projectIDs have identical nameing except for the added descriptor of either "FD" or "AP" (or no additional descriptor).

It would be helpful to understand what these descriptors mean in order to select the correct data. Please advise on which project ID 'types' (ie. FD, AP, or unmarked) I should download.

    Response:

There are different projectIDs for 'umbrella project' (FD), which contains all the children 'sequencing projects' (SP) and 'analysis projects' (AP) done under it.

So, one can find copies of files from the FD in SP and AP folders (i.e. under different ProjectIDs).

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
      by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
      by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
