  • Head of Genomics Core Facility (FMI)

The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) aim to strengthen its Genomics Core Facility. We exploit new technologies to further our understanding of the basic molecular mechanisms that underlie health and disease, namely in the fields of epigenetics, quantitative cell biology and neurobiology.
The NGS position we offer is interesting and challenging, but also fulfilling and rewarding. Please checkout the details on our opening, which will also provide access to FMI's job portal.

    In this position you will
    • Lead a team of 4 motivated and experienced team members
    • Closely interact with the users of the facility to optimize results
    • Support high-end applications of scientific sequencing for institute research
    • Ensure quality control of next generation sequencing
    • Drive technology development in miniaturized applications of NGS

For this challenging position you have
    • Proven management skills and leadership
    • Strong experience in quantitative genomics and a solid background in molecular biology
    • Hands-on experience with Illumina NGS machines
    • Keen interest in technology development
    • Pleasure working in a scientific service environment
    • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English

    We offer
    • A dynamic and successful research environment with strong interactions and access to cutting edge technologies
    • An open-ended position
    • Very competitive compensation

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
