Default Bioinformatician, Purdue University, Indiana, USA

If anyone wants to work at the same university as Phillip and myself here is your opportunity. The University is in the process of creating additional user support services and we need a bioinformatician. See:

http://purdue.taleo.net/careersectio...al=10140480283

You may have to search the site for the actual description (job number 1102032) since I am not sure if the above link will take you directly to it.

The job posting says:

The Bioinformatics Core at Purdue is a new organization designed to support and catalyze significant biological research efforts across the university. In this role, the selected individual will have the opportunity to assist with establishing the new Core and defining a culture of excellence, conducting training and informational workshops for Purdue faculty and students, and the possibility of co-authorship in faculty research publications. Projects will be challenging, including non-model organisms, and we are looking for an individual who is excited about interacting with multi-disciplinary groups and the development of new tools, techniques and workflows. Participate in all aspects of bioinformatics analyses. Perform routine and project specific data analysis including, but not limited to, de novo assembly, mapping and annotation of sequence data, RNA-Seq and ChIP-Seq analyses, SNP prediction and identification using various software packages to manipulate the data files. Expected to interact with other 'omics' centers, Cyber Center and Statistical Consulting Center to provide relevant services to the campus research community. The position will support all of the activities of the Bioinformatics Core at Purdue University.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology or related fields.
  • One or more years experience in handling large, complex, and multidimensional data sets (with particular emphasis on Next Generation Sequencing such as 454, Illumina, and/or SOLiD) and associated bioinformatics analyses.
  • Experience and desire to focus on providing bioinformatics support to a scientific research community.
  • Experience in the use and application of bioinformatics software and tools to address biological research needs.
  • Basic understanding of molecular biology, concepts of sequence assembly, alignment, annotation, working knowledge of genomics, bioinformatics and UNIX/LINUX.
  • Proficiency in writing scripts using Perl, BioPerl, Python or equivalent languages.
  • Highly motivated and detail oriented.
  • Ability, interest and curiosity to learn new skills.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with users of the Bioinformatics Core.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Preferred:
  • A strong biological science background, including non-model organisms and experience with Next Generation Sequence analysis.
  • Additional Information:
  • A background check will be required for employment in this position.
  • FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible For Overtime)
  • Retirement Eligibility: Fidelity Contribution Waiting Period.
  • Purdue University is an equal opportunity/equal access/affirmative action employer.
