  • MiSeq 500 cycle kits available yet?

Does anyone know whether the 500 cycle kits are available yet? I couldn't find anything on the Illumina homepage.
I guess the new software update already allows for 2x250 sequencing (w/o the enhanced throughput) so it would be nice to try that without having to waste 2 300 cycle kits.

    Thanks for any input!

It does? That would be awesome.

I know the 500 cycle kits are available because Illumina shipped me some. Alas, my MiSeqs have not been upgraded yet, so I thought I could not run them. Will have to look into this!

My iCom only shows 300's are available. Do you have to be special to see other things?

Just heard back from our Illumina Rep. Here is what I got:

"The 500 cycle kits can be ordered now using the Catalog number MS-102-2003-PRE. They will start shipping next week."

The 500-cycle kits are real and being shipped...ours are supposedly going to be hand delivered from Hayward today.

We've had ours for several days. Now if we could only get the upgrade...
Anyone want to speculate on how a 2x250 will work on a non-upgraded MiSeq?

According to our rep the software upgrade is "imminent". Should come out in the next day or two

                Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
                by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

                Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
                by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
