Default pileup format- what is ^F

Hello

I am parsing the the read bases column of pileup format (bwa & samtools). Please help me to figure out how to get the base appear in the beginning of the read?

Example:
,.,.,.,,....,,..,,.,..........,.......,,,..,,,^>.^F,^8

what is:
^>
^F
^8
