  • What are rc units?

Hi all, can anyone educate to me what rc units are?

For WGS genome records, for example, on NCBI you often find something like xxx rc linear DNA.

How do I convert that to bases?

I have just unsuccessfully googled that...never came across this unit before...

I'm not sure exactly what rc stands for, but it is telling you how many contigs make up the full WGS data set. There is no relationship between rc and base pairs.

    Example for Chlamydomonas reinhardtii CC-503 cw92 mt+

    Code:
LOCUS ABCN01000000 11384 rc DNA linear PLN 26-JUN-2008
DEFINITION Chlamydomonas reinhardtii strain CC-503 cw92 mt+, whole genome
                shotgun sequencing project.
    ACCESSION ABCN00000000
    VERSION ABCN00000000.1 GI:154756679
    DBLINK Project: 12260
    KEYWORDS WGS.
There are 11,384 contigs (ABCN01000001 - ABCN01011384) which make up the WGS project.

WGS records use rc for record count. You can't convert it into bases. They might look like a normal GenBank file, but they are NOT sequence files. See:

          Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
          by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

          Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
          by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
