Greetings SEQ community -
I don't recall ever being a newbie in any forum in the recent past but I must say that is the case here.
I will be working with an Illumina transcriptome derived from the retinal/RPE tissue of Gallus gallus and will be starting from scratch - just now working out the details to obtain a computer with enough memory, etc.
I think I may start with ngs_backbone to clean up my reads when I receive them shortly from Emory Univ in GA. Luckily I'll have the Gallus gallus genome in my favor which is decently annotated and nearly complete.
Mostly I will be reading threads and trying to learn from them but should I run into a roadblock I'll certainly post for help.
I am looking forward to learning a lot on this forum and I thank those of you who help others to learn NGS techniques in advance - you guys are fulfilling a role that may allow me in the future to help others as well.
Also in my favor is a decently annotated Contig library from the retinal tissue of Gallus and I hope to take advantage of that as well.
Right now I am learning the basics of Linux.
Thanks for being here and helping.
