  • RA Position in the Chinese University of Hong Kong

    Research Associate Position in Bioinformatics
The School of Life Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

A research associate or research assistant position is available in the Zhong Lab, school of life sciences, the chinese university of hong kong. It is funded by a 3y GRF project to investigate transcription factor and gene expression network using large scale ChIP-Seq and RNA-Seq data. Salary ranges from 14k to 25k HKD per month, depends on qualification and work experience.
The applicants are expected to have a bachelor degree (or higher) in a relevant math/computer science background such as CS, mathematics, statistics, population genetics, bioinformatics, genomics or even particle physics. The applicant would routinely use packages in R or Matlab and program in either Perl, Python or C. Good knowledge in math and statistics is important. Since the wet lab part of the Zhong group mainly focuses on generating high-throughput sequencing data (BS-Seq, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, small RNA-Seq DNAseI-Seq and HiC), interest in working closely with a NGS team is important. In addition, interests in machine learning and network modeling would be a great bonus!

The Zhong Lab is part of The State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnolgoy, in The School of Life Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is a sequencing lab with a strong research focus on crop functional genomics, particularly those related to growth hormones and developmental processes. The key resource and advantage of the lab is the knowhow and in-house capacity of performing Illumina sequencing and the ability of analyze genomic data.

Please send the following materials to silin.zhong (at) cuhk.edu.hk: CV and contact information for references, a cover letter explaining your research interests and career goals, and what training you hope to gain in our lab.

More info about the lab could be found at http://137.189.43.55/

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
