  • The Brain & Spine Institute (ICM) recruits five engineers in bioinformatics

The Brain & Spine Institute (ICM, Paris) recruits five engineers in bioinformatics

You aspire to contribute, in a cutting-edge scientific and clinical environment, to the advancement of brain knowledge, and to the discovery of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for neurological disorders.

The ICM bioinformatics & biostatistics core facility, at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, is strengthening and diversifying its activities.
Comprising six staff members, including two research associates specialized in genome bioinformatics, the facility recruits five new bioinformaticians for the following missions:
    • Treatment and interpretation of genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic data from high-throughput sequencing – 3 positions (open to junior or experienced candidates)
    • Methodological and software development for new applications (complete genomes, methylation profiles) – 2 positions

Depending on each position, the associated tasks include several components, going from the development and implementation of pipelines and web interfaces, to users advice, support and training.

    PROFILES:
    • Knowledge: expertise in the analysis of omics data of higher eukaryotes (bioinformatics methods and data) and/or skills in software engineering (algorithmic, programming, high-performance computing)
    • Professional experience: beginners and skilled candidates welcomed
    • Degrees: MSc-level degree in bioinformatics / computer science or equivalent level

    POSITIONS:
    • Contracts: fixed-term (CDD)
    • Salary: depending on experience
    • Starting date: as soon as possible
    • Location: ICM, Hôpital Pitié-Salpêtrière, 75013 PARIS, FRANCE – http://icm-institute.org/en/

Send CV and cover letter to:
    [email protected] and [email protected]

Deadline for applications: June 1st, 2017.

The Brain & Spine Institute (ICM) is a private state-approved non-profit foundation, dedicated to basic and clinical neuroscience research. Part of the largest European hospital and a top-level French university, the ICM gathers in the same building 600 researchers and clinicians covering the full spectrum of neurosciences, who collaborate to accelerate discoveries on the functioning of the brain and the development of treatments for diseases such as: Alzheimer, Parkinson, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, depression or paraplegias. The ICM is located at the heart of Paris and offers a unique environment associating core technological facilities, space for industrial partners and a center for clinical investigations. This environment has attracted the best international research groups.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
