query on various coverage terms

Hi ,

I am quite confused by various terms of 'coverage'. Could i please know what actually does Coverage, Base coverage,coverage of the contig, Depth of the coverage, read depth coverage, Sequencing depth means.

Also from the velvet assemblies i found that the coverage is Kmer coverage.
For eg:

>NODE_6_length_310_cov_23.780645

From the manual i calculated by substituting in the formula: C= (Ck*L)/(L-k+1)
and obtained the 'C' value and found the average 'C'- value to be >1200. Is this feasible?


Moreover, How could i know the reference genome size?
