Velvet question

Hello.

quick (hopefully) question on velvet. For categories, the number of categories is something you have to set during compiling. Is this a max number? IE, if you compile for 10 but only need to use 2, will this run or give an error?

yes - it's a maximum. I compiled once with CAT...=2 and MAXKMER...=63 and used only one category. No problem.

I'm wondering if it makes sense to compile several settings. I made one with CAT=1 and KMER=31 - another with CAT=2 and KMER=63 - but never measured runtime and memory usage [using the same input and the same -k value]. Well - it works - but in case someone knows if it makes sense...
