  • Call for Abstracts — Individualizing Medicine 2012 by Mayo Clinic

Abstract submission closes Friday, June 15, for Individualizing Medicine 2012: Transforming Patient Care with Genomics.

We’re looking for a diversity of ideas and realize that individualized medicine is more than just genomics. If you have a study that brings the world closer to the n of 1, consider submitting the abstract for a poster session.

Bioinformatics, biostatistics, information technology, systems biology, and related studies are welcome.

This three-day conference features world-renowned experts who cover the gamut of issues in personalized medicine. Presentations will explore everything from cutting-edge diagnostics and experimental cancer treatments to the ethical and legal trappings of how to steward patient genomic information. There’s also an introduction to individualized medicine for those unfamiliar with the field.

The conference is hosted by the Center for Individualized Medicine at Mayo Clinic. Check out the conference website for more information. http://individualizingmedicineconference.mayo.edu.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
