  • Post-doctoral fellowship in bioinformatics, Sweden

Post-doctoral fellowship in bioinformatics with focus on non-coding RNA (Lund University, Sweden)

The Canceromics Branch of the Department of Oncology at Lund University in Sweden focuses on the application of genome-wide techniques on cancer research. Located in southern Sweden in the Medicon Valley region and with more than fifty researchers, it offers a stimulating, multidisciplinary and internationally competitive research environment within the fields of breast cancer genomics, bioinformatics, molecular genetics and cell biology.

The Non-coding RNA Unit invites now applications for a postdoctoral fellowship within the field of non-coding RNA bioinformatics to be filled immediately. The successful applicant will be working on the computational/statistical analysis of large-scale next-generation sequencing data sets (Illumina) to characterize long as well as short non-coding RNA expression in tumour samples. The work will be performed in close collaboration with the members of the group in the wet-lab and with other bioinformaticians within the branch.

Applicants must hold a PhD in bioinformatics or equivalent. Good knowledge of statistics and good command in English is an absolute requirement.

The duration of the position will be 2 years.

Please, include in the application curriculum vitae with information on education, previous employment and list of publications together with a motivation and two letters of references to be sent separately.

Founded in 1666, Lund University is today one of the largest, oldest and broadest universities in Scandinavia and is consistently ranked among the world's top 100 universities. Lund University has an excellent academic reputation with a large number of visiting professors and international students. With eight faculties, the University’s activities cover education and research in engineering, science, law, social sciences, economics, medicine, humanities, theology, fine arts, music and drama.
The University has some 30 world-leading research environments. This, together with increased direct funding from the Swedish Government, allocated on the basis of competition and quality, makes Lund University Sweden’s strongest research university. Lund University is an important force in the expansion of the transnational Öresund region (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%98resund_Region), not least since two of Europe’s largest research facilities, Max IV (next generation synchrotron radiation facility) and ESS (European Spallation Source) are being built in Lund.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
