Position Summary:
A Computational Biology/Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Scholar position focusing on cancer genomics is available in the laboratory of Dr. Christopher Maher (www.maherlab.com) at The McDonnell Genome Institute at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Our lab focuses on developing computational methods for analyzing large-scale cancer genomics data collections from solid tumors to improve our understanding of cancer biology and identify novel therapies for treating patients. Active projects address topics such as the discovery and characterization of novel long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), detecting structural variation, cancer evolution, and the development of new bioinformatics tools. This Postdoctoral Scholar position requires extensive communication and collaboration with our group of computational biologists, programmers, and clinicians, and includes opportunities to initiate and contribute to publication of novel methodologies and scientific findings. Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications A PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or related field, with a solid background in programming and statistics. Preferred Qualifications Candidates should be comfortable working on UNIX/Linux operating system, program with Perl and/or Python, and familiar with statistical analysis packages (SAS, R, or Bioconductor). Also expected to be familiar with bioinformatics tools and genomics databases. Previous experience in cancer genomics would be an advantage but is not essential. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, eager to acquire new knowledge and skills on a regular basis, and must demonstrate critical thinking skills. The ability to analyze and interpret results to communicate with others and produce scientific publications is required. To Apply Please send a letter of interest and curriculum vitae to Dr. Christopher Maher at christophermaher@wustl.edu. |
