  • Postdoctoral Researcher in Bioinformatics & Systems Biology (Tartu, Estonia)

    UNIVERSITY OF TARTU

The Estonian Genome Center of the University of Tartu (EGCUT) announces three post-doctoral researcher positions in

    - functional genomics
    - genetic epidemiology
    - bioinformatics and systems biology

We are seeking three post-doctoral researchers whose main tasks will be to generate and interpret genomic and systems biology data to help us better understand the functional variation between individuals and how this information can be used for the improvement of human health. The successful candidates are expected to analyze targeted and genome-wide high-throughput sequencing data from studies on DNA, RNA and epigenetics.

    Candidate qualifications:
    - PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Genetic Epidemiology or a closely related discipline
    - Competence with Unix operating systems with an excellent programming skills in at least one of the following languages: R, Perl, C/C++, Python
    - Previous experience in high-throughput genomics analysis (i.e. sequencing, epigenetics, expression, GWAS) is an advantage
    - Able to work independently on his/her specific tasks and as part of a team
    - Good written and spoken English is essential

    We offer:
    - Well equipped center for high-throughput sequencing, genotyping and functional genomics (HiSeq2000, HiScanSQ, BeadXpress, etc.)
    - A large population based biobank with an excellent intellectual working environment
    - Successful post-docs can apply for professor positions in order to continue after the second year
    - Competitive post-doc salary depending on experience

    Job conditions:
    - Full-time (40 hours per week)
    - Type of contract: 2 years (can be extended)

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
