  • Distance courses in computational biology

The online courses from the University of Manchester, UK, might be useful to members of this forum. We offer a range of modules designed to provide opportunities for professional development in, for example, R, perl and database design. Those wishing to progress to the MSc in Digital Biology will complete a supported research project.

The next courses begin on 4 October 2010. Bioinformatics for Systems Biology (http://octette.cs.man.ac.uk/bioinfor...BIOL61820.html) is already full, but there are still places available on :

Introduction to software development in Java
    Introduction to Health Informatics
    Biocomputing
    Computational Systems Biology

You can also book early for the courses running in March 2011. The March courses will include :

    Mathematics for metabolic modelling
    Introduction to BioHealth Informatics
    Introduction to microarray data analysis
    Databases and data modelling
Object-oriented analysis and design with UML

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
      by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
      by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
