  • Bioinformatician/PhD position in Plant Systems Biology and Epigenomics at Purdue Univ

The Li lab (https://www.purdue.edu/hla/sites/lilab/) at Purdue University seeks applicants for a bioinformatician/PhD position.

In the Li Lab, we are interested in developing a comprehensive molecular understanding of plant responses to environmental and developmental cues at both transcriptional and epigenetic levels. This position will lead and participate in projects to characterize gene regulatory networks underlying plant environmental and developmental responses, by processing and mining RNA-Seq and ChIP-Seq datasets.

    Required Qualifications:
    1) Prior experience in NGS data analysis.
    2) Working knowledge of Unix, R, and Perl/Python.
    3) Bachelor's or Master's degree in genomics, biology, plant science, computer science, statistics, biological engineering, or in any related field.

    Preferred qualification:
    1) College level knowledge of molecular biology and genetics.
    2) Experience with high performance computing.

The position is flexible and can be tailored for the experience level and career plan of the incumbent. This position could be a full-time bioinformatician, or a half-time Research Assistant, or a PhD position.

    How to apply:

The bioinformatician position is available immediately. Applications can be emailed to [email protected], including a one-page cover letter, CV including skills and research/education experience, and the contacts of three references. Please kindly set the email title as "[Bioinformatician_application] Full name". Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

To apply for the PhD position: Applicants are encouraged to email a one-page cover letter and CV (including skills, previous research/education, GPA, GRE/TOEFL, and the contacts of three references) to [email protected]. Please kindly set the email title as "[PhD_bioinfo_application] Full name". Please also refer to the departmental webpage (https://ag.purdue.edu/hla/Hort/Pages...rogram.aspx#AP) for application procedure, requirements and deadlines. Deadline for fall admission is May 1st, 2017.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
