  • Researcher in computational biology / bioinformatics - IMPPC, Barcelona, Spain

    Regulatory Genomics Group, IMPPC, Spain

We are looking for a computational biologist with experience in analyzing high-throughput sequence data. The long-term goal of our group is to understand how gene expression and genome packaging is affected by genetic and epigenetic changes that happen during evolution, development and in disease, in particular cancer. The data that we use for our research are generated in collaboration with experimental groups, or retrieved from publicly available databases. We are looking for a post-doctoral or experienced computational biologist with passion for basic research. The initial contract will be for 1 year. We offer a competitive salary, depending on experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will be supported to apply for grants and fellowships. For more information and informal enquiries please contact the head of the group, Dr. Tanya Vavouri ([email protected]).

The research at the institute combines basic and applied research in cancer and epigenetics. The IMPPC offers excellent working conditions in attractive surroundings.

Applicants must have familiarity with omics technologies and good scripting/programming skills. Good knowledge of English, excellent organization skills and the ability to work independently are essential.

Interested applicants should submit a CV, contact details of two referees and a 1-page description of their research interests. Please send your application to [email protected] (cc [email protected] ).

Deadline for applications: February 28th 2013

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
    by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
