  • Disappearence of samples along with helicos

    Hi all,

I was writing to see if any of you encountered themselves in the same situation as us regarding Helicos.
Some months ago, before Helicos collapsed, we send them some samples for sequencing. Even tought there were rumours of the collapse, they promised us that the samples would be sequenced.
After the collapse, we were contacted by Daniel Jones of Helicos, promising again that the we would get our results because he was going to buy the technology and keep on with the sequencing. Five months later Daniel Jones has dissapeared the face of the earth along with our samples. It took several month of work and effort to get those samples and we would very much want to recover them at least.

Can anyone help us? Is anyone in the same situation?

    Thank you!!

Laia, have you had any luck tracking down Mr. Jones?

The Helicos website is no longer online so I am assuming his old email doesn't work: [email protected].

Perhaps you could try contacting him through LinkedIn. His title is still displayed as Field Application Scientist at Helicos BioSciences.

      Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
      by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
