An exciting opportunity for a Senior Bioinformatician/Bioinformatician (depending on experience) to join a dynamic team working to apply high throughput sequencing-based methods to the placenta. This falls into three general areas: i) single cell transcript analysis using Drop-Seq, (Macosko et al, Cell 2015, doi 10.1016/j.cell.2015.05.002) which provides an accessible way to capture single cells with sets of uniquely barcoded primer beads within tiny droplets. This enables large-scale, highly parallel single-cell transcript profiling at reasonable cost. A "wet-lab" post-doc is being appointed in parallel to this role and together the aim is to apply this technique to the human and mouse placenta. ii) placental epigenomics including Promoter Capture HiC and 3D nuclear organization analysis; and iii) transcript analysis.
Applicants should have (or close to obtaining) a relevant MSc or PhD in the fields of bioinformatics, scientific data analysis, machine learning, or related fields. Expertise in the areas of scientific programming, handling biological information in databases, data mining and analysis packages are essential for the post, as is a general understanding of biological information. Previous experience in the analysis of high throughput biological data would be highly advantageous, as is previous demonstrated experience in leading projects and working in interdisciplinary teams.
