  • Single Cell RNA-Seq Workshops at UC!

Coming to a University of California near you:
    A Single Cell RNA-Seq Workshop!

For more information, and to register, go to https://registration.genomecenter.ucdavis.edu/

    December 18-20, 2017: Workshop @ UC DAVIS

    January 10-12, 2018: Workshop @ UC BERKELEY

    March 19-21, 2018: Workshop @ UCSF

Presented topics will include experimental design, data generation, and analysis of single cell RNA sequencing data (primarily generated using the 10x platform) on the command line and within the R statistical programming language. Participants will explore software and protocols, create and modify workflows, and diagnose/treat problematic data utilizing high performance computing services. Exercises will be performed on the command line and within R with a provided dataset. The primary packages used for analysis will be 10x software (for sequence reads to counts) and the R package Seurat for downstream analysis.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
