  • Bioinformatics analyst at IRCM, Montreal, Canada

    Summary of responsibilities
    The successful candidate will work in the collection, management, interpretation, and analysis of biological/clinical data, with a focus on deep or next-generation sequencing data. His/Her time will be devoted to IRCM’s Bioinformatics Core Facility (BIF). BIF handles data processing requests from different research labs at IRCM and the analyst will be interacting with researchers and getting their requests to completion. The candidate will be responsible for advanced genomics analysis and should therefore have a solid background in biostatistics. He/She will be writing specific programs to process experimental data, and should be comfortable handling Unix system administration tasks, like bioinformatics software installations and upgrades, queue management, etc.

    Job requirements
    • M.Sc. in bioinformatics, computer science, the life sciences, or a related field with a minimum of 2-5 years related experience.
    • Displayed experience with deep or next-generation sequencing technologies like RNA-seq, Chip-seq, Exome among others and associated tools such as: TopHat, CuffLinks, CuffDiff, MACS, MEME Suite, Genome Browser and others, in addition to experience with different bioinformatics resources like NCBI and Ensembl.
    • Strong background in Unix based environments.
    • Proficiency in programming using languages like Java/Python/Perl/C++.
    • Experience with statistical programming in R is an asset.
    • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a deadline driven environment.
    • Knowledge of French and English is required.

    Working conditions
    Full time position with an initial two (2) year contract (renewable). The IRCM offers a competitive range of benefits.
