  • Computational Biologist: Immunology

Cancer Research Center of Lyon (CRCL), France.

Team C. Caux / JY. Blay "Therapeutic targeting of the tumor cells and of their immune stroma"

We are seeking a Computational Biologist to work within the team of Dr Christophe Caux at the Department of "Immunology, Virus, Inflammation" of the Cancer Research Center of Lyon (CRCL), France.

C Caux’s team objective is to identify immunosuppressive and immune surveillance mechanisms induced by tumors, and to better understand the respective roles of immuno-regulatory receptors (immune checkpoints) in physiological and pathological situations to develop new drugs and combinatorial therapeutic strategies.

Contract: 1 year contract (2 years renewable)

    Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will integrate a team of immunologists and work in close collaboration with the Gilles Thomas Bioinformatics Platform (Dr Pierre Saintigny – Dr Alain Viari) to develop and implement bioinformatics tools to study the role of various immune cells/pathways within the tumor microenvironment.

The two main objectives of the applicant will be to:
    1/ describe and assess the existing statistical and bioinformatics approaches for the analysis of various -omics data using public datasets (cancer databases such as TCGA, immune databases such as immgen) and implement a complete analysis solution (mixing existing and if necessary new tools and or methods) for each omic data type of interest;
2/ implement pipeline for the analysis of RNA-Seq data generated by the team. An interest in the application of supervised and unsupervised machine learning approaches is also desirable.

    The duties also include:

    • Analysis of large datasets, script generation, development of new methods/tools for advanced analysis of datasets

    • Consulting researchers on the NGS experimental design

    • Define and handle the data management processes

    • Define, setup and maintain the group computing infrastructure

    • Support the ongoing research in the group through scientific monitoring, assistance with papers, grants and scientific meeting presentations

    Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a PhD and a solid background in bioinformatics, statistics, and computational biology and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment.
The individual should be highly motivated and be able to work independently, while being able to communicate effectively with other members of the team.
The candidate should hold a PhD degree (or complete one within the next 2 months) and a proven publication record in well-regarded journals. Knowledge of tumor immunobiology will be considered as an advantage.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter and their CV, including the contact information of two professional references, to Christophe Caux (christophe.caux -at- lyon.unicancer.fr).

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
