  • Software for viewing *.tif files?

    Hello,

If I wanted to reprocess Illumina MiSeq tiff files, what software should I use?

    Regards,
    CH

What do you want to do? "Process" is a pretty open term. Are these "tiff files" the raw data off of the instrument? That could be quite a challenge.

    Otherwise ...

Imagemagick is great for batch processing files : http://www.imagemagick.org/

GIMP and MsPaint are free tools if you just need to hand mark up a few images.

If you only want to view files (since the title of your post says that) try: http://www.irfanview.com/ This will handle different bit depth files.

With the Illumina TIFF I had problems opening in "standard" image viewer (bit depth).
ImageJ (http://imagej.nih.gov/ij/) works just fine, used it for GAIIx images.

.. but I wonder if the MiSeq really keeps the TIFF files ..?

You can force it to if you need to. We tried it once, but then ran up against a bit of a wall; MiSeqs handle their tiffs differently to HiSeq and GAIIs, so the available software doesn't work on them.

i would also vote for irfanview. It has batch editing tools that are real handy.

Well, OK, on Windows I'd go for IrfanView as well .. as I am working on linux ImageJ is doing an excellent job on such image files.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
                by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

                Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
                by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
