  • Bioinformatician position at IGBMC Strasbourg, France

    Context
    The Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC) is a research unit composed of 47 research teams (750 persons) and involving Inserm, CNRS and the University of Strasbourg.
    The IGBMC Microarray and Sequencing platform is dedicated to provide resources and expertise in functional genomics to IGBMC and the research community. The present staff includes 13 persons (8 for the experimental part and 5 for bioinformatics/biostatistics). The successful candidate will join the team working on the analysis of sequencing data from the projects treated by the platform. These projects concern different subjects like functional genomics, development, stem cells or human genetics and the main techniques used are ChIPseq, RNAseq, smallRNAseq and resequencing (exomes or targeted regions).

    Activities
    In collaboration with the research teams leading the projects and the bioinformaticians from the platform, the successful candidate will work on the development of informatics tools dedicated to the management and analysis of the NGS data generated by the platform. More precisely, the successful candidate will:
    - Continue the development of a database and a web interface for the management of the data generated by the platform.
    - Develop new applications dedicated to the analysis of the data generated by the platform.
    - Document and present the developments achieved.

    Required qualification and professional experience
    Required qualification: Advanced university degree (Master or PhD) in informatics or bioinformatics with a strong informatics component.
    Required skills:
    - Advanced knowledge of Unix environment and shell programming
    - Advanced knowledge and experience in programming (JAVA, C or C++)
    - Advanced knowledge of a at least one script language (Perl or Python) and PHP
    - Advanced knowledge of relational databases (design, creation and maintenance) and knowledge of at least one database management system (MySQL or PostgreSQL)
    - Basic knowledge of biology and genomics and of the main biological databanks
    - English
    - Previous experience or knowledge on bioinformatics for NGS would be appreciated.

    Contract
    18 months fixed term contract, starting date (negotiable): September 1st 2012.
    Salary: based on the French public research institution wages and adjusted according to the candidate degree and experience.
    Work location: IGBMC, 1 rue Laurent Fries, Illkirch (near Strasbourg), France.
