    Are you a guru in next-generation sequencing? The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a talented Bioinformatician to focus on the analysis of large clinical next-generation sequencing (NGS) datasets. We want somebody with an extensive interest in large-data problems, and an in-depth knowledge of data-handling. The successful applicant will be working closely with a highly integrated team of systems-administrators, software-engineers, statisticians, PhD students and post doctoral associates on:

    * Optimization and parallelization of algorithms for the analysis of genome-sequencing data
    * Automating procedures for pipeline evaluation and assessment
    * Creating pipelines with the robustness and provenance-tracking needed for clinical use
    * Downstream data-modeling, including pathway analysis and clinical association studies
    * Extensive data-visualization

    You'll be working with some of the largest NGS datasets in the world, including paired WGS and RNA-Seq in 500 prostate cancers (CPC-GENE), the ICGC pan-cancer initiative (2000 tumour/normal whole-genomes and >8000 exomes) and the on-going DREAM Somatic Mutation Calling Challenge. We have an extensive computational infrastructure, including a >8000-core computing cluster and multi-petabyte storage. This is a unique opportunity to develop your strong computational skillset to create the pipelines needed for clinical-sequencing and to apply them to unique datasets that will help us rewrite the textbook of cancer genomics.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    * BSc or equivalent education in computational biology, engineering, mathematics, computer sciences or molecular biology
    * Strong background with unix/linux tools and administration
    * Experience in high performance computing on a large scale cluster using Sun Grid Engine (i.e. SGE)
    * Strong programming skills, preferrably in R/perl, required
    * Exposure to next-generation sequencing data is mandatory
    * Statistical background in machine-learning, survival or Bayesian techniques is an asset
    * Proven experience with bioinformatics resources and/or databases is an asset
    * Experience working with test-driven programming and version control is a major asset

    OICR is an innovative new cancer research institute located in the MaRS Centre in the Discovery District in downtown Toronto.
