POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior R&D Scientist at Rubicon will work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and take part in the commercialization of innovative nucleic acid library preparation products used at the leading edge of research. They will initiate, lead and execute scientific research and development strategies to advance capabilities in genomic and expression analysis for molecular diagnostics and research. Rubicon is seeking a senior scientist with recognized standing in genomic modification and assay development and has demonstrated innovation and creativity. The candidate will have significant hands-on experience with nucleic acid polymerases, nucleic acid modifying enzymes, next generation sequencing and bioinformatics. Direct experience with design of experiments (DOE) is a strong plus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conceives, designs, conducts, and leads advanced independent or multi-disciplinary research driven by strategic business needs
Take a leadership role in projects and guide technical areas independently. Make decisions involving designing, performing, and troubleshooting experiments, as well as analyzing and presenting experimental results
Provides a technical role model to others and provides consultation on challenging technical issues. Provide expertise in DNA/RNA modifying enzymes and next generation genomic data analysis
Develops solutions to complex problems that require in-depth knowledge, experience and creativity
Identifies, evaluates, and manages risk on research projects
Responsible for own as well as their team’s lab book documentation and for the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of experimental results
Manage goals within defined target timeframes and make decisions regarding the goals and progress of project teams
Makes significant contributions to intellectual property, scientific literature, and conferences
Be highly committed and deliver results in a fast-paced collaborative team environment
Perform other duties as assigned

Ph.D. degree in life science (enzymology, molecular biology/genomics, biochemistry, bioinformatics or related field) with 8+ years industrial experience or M.S./B.S. degree with additional progressive research experience sufficient to demonstrate equivalency
Broad application of principles, theories, and concepts in enzymology, molecular biology, and/or nucleic acid chemistry
Mastery of molecular biology and enzymology techniques such as PCR, qRT-PCR, Next Generation sequencing, nucleic acid purification, DNA & RNA modification & amplification, reverse transcription, nucleic acid separation techniques, etc.
Significant experience in RNA sequencing is a plus
NGS bioinformatics experience
Design of experiment (DOE) experience
Working knowledge of 21CFR Part 820, ISO, and GLP regulations desirable
Knowledge and significant hands-on experience with nucleic acid polymerases, nucleic acid modifying enzymes, instrumentation for PCR/real time PCR, next generation sequencing platforms (Illumina required and Ion Torrent desirable), electrophoresis, nucleic acid quantification, imaging, etc.
Proven track record of leading successful research projects
