  • How to Run BWA on Windows 8

    Hello,

Even there are executable Windows-compatible BWA on various websites (such as http://bow.codeplex.com/). But I couldn't find the latest version of BWA (which is bwa-0.7.8) for Windows 8.

How can I compile and use latest version of BWA on Windows 8?

If you must run on windows then you will have to install cygwin (https://cygwin.com/install.html) and then compile latest bwa yourself.

You may also want to check out Ugene. It's a GUI based tool that has several alignment tools including bwa.

I have not run this on large datasets, but it has worked very well for microbial and amplicon projects.

UGENE is a free open source software for DNA and protein sequence visualization, alignment, assembly and annotation

          Hi guys,

I am trying to create and .exe file from the latest BWA 0.7 .tar file.
I managed to extract the C files from the .tar file using TarTool, but I do not know how to move forward.
Can you please explain what needs to be done to create the bwa.exe file?

          Thanks!

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
            by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

            Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
            by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
