NCBI has switched to using "https-only" connections. That is only supported in versions of blast+ package v.2.5 onwards. You should upgrade your blast to the latest (v.2.6 as of now) available.

Hi GenoMax, thanks for your answer. Upgrade was the first thing I have done (also I have made the Ubuntu upgrade), but still doesn't work. I have installed the latest Blast Standalone available (v.2.6).
Do you think I'm doing something wrong?
      Thanks again.

GenoMax, I just did run the blastp help command and it answer me that even I have installed the 2.6.0+, actually the version 2.2.31+ is still running. I have just downloaded the 2.6.0 version and installed aside the older version with tar zxvpf command. How can I uninstall the older version and make the last one working?
        Thanks again.

GenoMax you was right, actually I haven't uninstalled the older version. Now I did it right and installed the latest 2.6.0 version and the problem was solved, but in order to run I need to use ./blastp, Do you know why is it happening, if I try to run just blastp it say program is not installed.
          Thanks.

Looks like you got that sorted out.

You can add the new location of the directory where you have the latest blast+ programs to your $PATH (something along the lines of export PATH=$PATH:/path_to_new_blast). To make the change permanent see this link.

I am facing a similar problem. Can you please tell me how to uninstall the ncbi-blast-2.5.0+ version, I am having a hard time finding the right answer. I am using Ubuntu16.04 LTS.

Instead of worrying about uninstalling the old version just make sure only the new version is in your $PATH (or provide full path to the new blast executables in your command).

                  by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
