  • How many NGS papers?

    Hello,

Has anybody tried to find out how many papers using next-generation sequencing have been published (preferably excluding reviews, just papers with results)? It is not obvious to do it in pubmed, so if anybody has worked on that I'd be very interested in the results (and/or in the exact query used).

    Thanks to all

The next-gen instrument manufacturers usually maintain lists for their own instruments (Illumina certainly does) so you could probably get a head-start that way.

I think Roche has a list on their website of all 454 papers

        Hello all,

Here are the current results from my survey:

Illumina (answering an email) indicate 515 research papers (excluding reviews) using their system

Roche/454 indeed have a number on their site: 610 papers, I assume including reviews

Life Sciences/SOLiD give 31 papers on their site, there probably are some more (but anyway they are relative latecomers)

So the take-home message is: 1) definitely more than 1,000 published papers
        2) 454 is still a bit ahead of Illumina (but probably not for long), SOLiD seems far behind (that conclusion being a bit shaky).

I hope this is useful to people (I needed the figures for a talk)

Don't forget Helicos! I'm pretty sure their site has the papers, but it is probably around 10 at this point.

To update the list of next-gen papers (by manufacturer): the figure for Helicos (from the company) is six (6) published papers using their technology so far.

              Cheers,

              Bertrand

Helicos' list includes only what they have done in house; I think the Quake sequencing paper is the only "external" publication using their platform.

                    Hi brjordan,

The list of 625 publications enabled by 454 Sequencing may be found here:

To clarify, the Publications section of the 454 website only lists peer-reviewed scientific journal articles - not reviews. We do keep a short list of reviews separately on the site, at http://www.454.com/publications-and-...w-articles.asp but these are not tallied with the research articles. There's often a short lag between adding papers to the Publications page and when the front page counter graphic is updated.

Lastly, it's challenging to keep pace with the rate that these papers are being published so you may occasionally see a delay. If we miss one you can always send me a PM to let me know. There's just an unbelievable amount of great science being done by our customers these days!

                    Best regards,
                    Jason

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
