  • Solexa sequencing/mRNA sequencing

    hi everyone,
I wonder if someone explains the difference in solexa sequencing and mRNA sequencing. thanks

  • #2
"Solexa" is the name of a company purchased by Illumina some years ago. Sometimes still used to refer to sequencers now sold by Illumina, the term is losing currency as it does not seemed to be used by Illumina. Illumina sequencers are the most popular "next generation" sequencers, having come to dominate the nascent next gen market prior to their acquisition by Illumina.

"mRNA sequencing" would be a generic term for producing the sequence of at least part of a messenger RNA. There are many methodologies that allow mRNA (and, more commonly pools of mRNAs) to be sequenced on Illumina and many other sorts of sequencers.

thanks very much sir, It means both technologies are same but the name are different. mRNA sequencing could be named solexa sequencing?
      thanks and regards

        No, not at all.

Many types of sequencing can be undertaken on an Illumina (Solexa) sequencer. This includes "mRNA sequencing", but is not limited to it.

Further, "mRNA sequencing" can be undertaken on many instruments.

So it is not correct to refer to "mRNA sequencing" as "solexa sequencing" or vice versa.

        Repeating in Google-translated French:
        Répétition dans Google-traduits française:

        Non, pas tout.

De nombreux types de séquençage peuvent être entrepris sur une Illumina (Solexa) séquenceur. Ceci inclut "séquençage ARNm", mais n'est pas limité à qu'elle.

En outre, «séquençage ARNm» peut être entrepris sur de nombreux instruments.

Donc c'est pas correct pour désigner «ARNm séquençage» comme «Solexa séquençage» ou vice versa.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
              by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

              Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
              by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
