This opportunity is in the Department of Genetics -- Genome Technology Access Center located in the Cortex Building, 4320 Forest Park Avenue.
Essential Functions
The Genome Technology Access Center was established by the Department of Genetics at Washington University in St. Louis to provide cutting-edge and cost effective sequencing and analysis technologies to local colleagues and external investigators. GTAC offers comprehensive next-gen sequencing, microarray, and PCR services. In addition to generating high quality genomic and transcriptomic data, we also perform data analysis and provide technological support to users to ensure maximum data value. Our goal is to return data of the highest quality and help researchers make biological sense out of the massive amounts of information generated in these experiments.
This opportunity assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments including documentation and preparation of materials. The Facility is responsible for the preparation of DNA for sequencing (library prep) and the actual operation of the sequencer. We currently use the Illumina HiSeq 2500, HiSeq 3000, and MiSeq.
The primary focus of the work includes but is not limited to the following:
>>NextGen library preparation. Involves both manual and automated technology
>>HiSeq 2500, HiSeq 3000, and cBot operation
>>Data warehousing
Required Qualifications
Candidates with a Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory setting or equivalent are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications
1) Next Generation Sequencing experience.
2) Experience with genomics research studies, experiments and assays including collection of data, preparation of solutions, and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
3) Understanding of data entry, as well as the management/integrity of data.
4) Experience with data management systems and software, particularly LIMs systems and Microsoft Excel. Must be comfortable in a Microsoft Windows environment.
5) Compliance with established safety procedures.
6) Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
The qualified candidate should demonstrate the ability to work independently and communicate effectively with the supervisor as well as investigators. Should have troubleshooting skills, an ability to maintain complete and organized records, and a working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment. Productivity and the ability to get a large number of projects completed an efficient manner are a must.
Salary Range
The hiring range for this opportunity is commensurate with experience.
