Specifically, in Japan, we have recently established a corporate entity, CLC bio Japan.

    CLC bio Japan is looking for an experienced bioinformatics field application scientist, to be located in the Tokyo area. The person will report directly to the CEO of CLC bio Japan.

    As CLC bio Japan is a newly established company, the ideal candidate will have the ability to work unsupervised in a number of different roles in a dynamic environment. The main objectives will be to adapt CLC bio's products to the Japanese market, and to work directly with customers for technical sales, support, and training. As the range of tasks is very broad, we are looking for somebody with a motivated and entrepreneurial spirit.

    Responsibilities

    • Taking part in pre-sales activities, such as visiting prospective customers and performing product demonstrations
    • Providing front-line technical support to customers
    • Follow-up on leads identified from seminars and trade shows
    • Participation in and organization of trade show exhibitions
    • Prospecting, negotiating and closing sales leads for bioinformatics software and hardware solutions to customers in pharmaceutical, biotech, clinical, and academic sectors
    • Improving our Japanese sales and marketing materials, including translation of product sheets etc. from English to Japanese
    • Working with various global sales staff and support staff, vendors and other departments to ensure high level of scientific and technical knowledge, and to ensure continuity in closing business deals
    • Any other tasks as required by the changing circumstances of this budding organization

    Minimum Requirements

    • 3+ years of sales and/or technical support experience with software and services, preferably in the bioinformatics segments
    • Excellent native-level Japanese skills, as the job will require redaction of sales materials
    • Good ability to read and speak English fluently (business level), as the job includes communications with CLC bio colleagues globally
    • Scientific background in Molecular Biology or other natural science is preferred
    • Formal business knowledge and training experience is an advantage
    • Excellent customer service and communication skills, enthusiastic attitude, and solid work ethics
    • Ability to work productively, unsupervised, in a dynamic environment
