  • Option for real names in forum profiles?

    Hi all,

I would find it useful to be able to show/see forum poster's real names (opt in of course). People are doing this already with their SeqAnswers wiki accounts, are these connected to the forum accounts in some way? If so could the forum profile link to the user's wiki profile?

Alternatively is is possible to change a username?

    Thanks,

    Peter

Hmm, looks like I can edit my "Custom User Title" from "Senior Member", maybe I should just use that field?

Or can a Forum account username be renamed by an admin?

I don't know about the forum, but I can tell you about the wiki. Indeed, each user in the forum is mirrored in the wiki, and it's possible to provide a direct link between the two. In addition, users can describe themselves using a minimal form in the wiki.

I have planned to initialize these links for each wiki user 'by default', but I got hung up trying to create a 'bot' account on the wiki to do this job. (Bot accounts are difficult precisely because of the way the forum accounts link to the wiki accounts, but it's not a serious problem TBH).

Once this is done, I wonder if the forum profile could be configured to show the information provided on the wiki page?

I'll also look into integrating ORCID into the wiki.

          Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
          by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

          Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
          by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
