  • 2nd Global Cancer Genomics Symposium on 19th & 20th November at ACTREC, India

    Dear All,

We are pleased to announce the 2nd Global Cancer Genomics Symposium to be held from 19-20th November 2012, at ACTREC, Tata Memorial Centre, Kharghar, Mumbai (http://www.gcgc.in). This meeting, organized jointly by members of the Consortium (Tata Memorial Center, Mumbai; George Washington University, Washington DC; Institute of Molecular Medicine, Lisbon; Rajiv Gandhi Center of Biotechnology, Trivendrum; and Kyoto University Graduate University of Medicine, Kyoto) from 19-20 November 2012, would feature participation by 36 distinguished national and international faculties: 20 speakers, 8 chairpersons, 13 panelists and 2 key note presentations by Dr. Nirmal Ganguly, President, JIPMER and Dr. VijayRaghavan, Director, NCBS. The mandate of the conference is to provide the most formal platform in this part of the world for all -omic related studies in cancer, to encourage across platform collaborative initiatives. The details of the meet is enclosed as an the attached document.

The first GCGC meeting organized last year at ACTREC, India brought along speakers from three broad themes that covered the field of emerging cancer genomics, molecular therapeutics and genomics technologies. 190 registered participants from 42 Indian National Institutes along with 10 international and 18 national speakers attended the meet. A meeting report detailing the conference can be found here (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22628426).

We suggest interested participants to register for the event by Oct 25th, 2012 (http://www.gcgc.in/regdetails.html). Abstracts for consideration as Poster Presentations can be submitted following registration at http://www.gcgc.in/regdetails.html by researchers from academia and industry involved in cancer research. All submitted abstracts received will be reviewed on the basis of scientific merit, novelty and practical application. Due to the limited slots available, only the best abstracts will be selected for poster presentation. Also, interview for senior graduate/ recently graduated students shortlisted for the postdoctoral positions in the laboratories of Speakers at the conference will be scheduled on the sidelines of the symposium. For details, please visit http://www.gcgc.in/postdoc.html. We encourage students to directly apply to the Prinicipal Investigators against the open position mentioning about their attendance to the 2nd GCGC 2012 symposium.

The conference poster can be found here http://www.gcgc.in/images/Global_Can...oster_2012.jpg. We request you to post it on the public notice board of your organization.

We would like to have representations from all the top tier institutions in India. We would be delighted if you can join us in making this event a success.

    Sincerely,

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
