  • Shipping RNA samples with RNAstable for RNA sequencing

I want to send several RNA samples to China for sequence the transcriptome using the Illumina HiSeq 2000 technology.
However, the dry ice shipping costs are too high. To solve this problem, we find a new way to transport RNA that doesn’t need dry ice (the transportation could be done at room temperatures), using RNAstable technology from Biomatrica company.
Still, I’m afraid that RNAstable matrix could impair the Illumina RNA sequencing technology.

Therefore, I’d like to ask if anyone knows if RNAstable matrix will allow the transcriptome sequencing using Illumina technology without any problem.

    Thank you for your time

    Best regards

    Good News

    Dear all

We’ve been using RNAstable to ship RNA samples from Portugal to China for RNA-Seq by Illumina technology, and everything was fine (shipment, library construction and sequencing process). We’ve done it twice.
Now we are arranging the things to ship RNA for Solid sequencing in RNAstable to the heart of Amazonic forest (INPA, Manaus, Brazil).
As someone told me some time ago, RNA shipment in dry ice is something to forget.

    Best regards

      what samples are these

      dear machado
I also wish to ship but what tissue samples are these. i have a tissue which is jelly like and size of a drosophila embryo. do you think this can be shipped in rnalater kind of reagent. will penetrance be an issue. please give your opinion. thanks
      regards

        Hi chipmonk
The RNAstable system is suitable for long storing extracted RNA, not RNA in tissues.
For preserving RNA in tissues you can use RNA later from Ambion or Qiagen, but this system has time limitations, like 1 day at 37 ºC.
        I hope this was useful.
        Thanks

          Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
          by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

          Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
          by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
