PostDoc - Bioinformatics - Computational RNA Biology

Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing,Germany

The newly founded research group "Computational RNA Biology and Ageing"

    headed by Dr. Christoph Dieterich

    is looking for

    a postdoctoral researcher (m/f)

    in Computational RNA Biology

The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and collaborative bioinformatics team in an excellent scientific environment. The Dieterich Lab is unifying research and service tasks with an emphasis on questions in post-transcriptional gene regulation and ageing. Especially, novel technologies in nucleic acids sequencing, mass spectrometry and imaging provide high-throughput data at an unprecedented depth and level of detail. The Dieterich Lab exploits these data source to leverage and deepen our understanding of post-transcriptional gene regulation on a systemic level.

This project either focuses on method development for the comparative and context-specific analysis of miRNA-RNA and RNA-protein binding and its influence on RNA properties (such as stability) or on systematic data integration (post-transcriptional network analysis and visualization) with a graphical user interface component. Of particular interest to us are applicants who want to study two or more aspects of the list below
    • Alternative RNA topologies (.i.e alternative cis and trans splicing)
    • Cis-regulatory elements in RNA
    • RNA editing
    • RNA-Protein interactions (CLIP, protein occupancy profiling)
    • Combinatorial action of RNA binding proteins and miRNAs on target mRNAs.
    • Post-transcriptional networks in disease and ageing

Applicants should have a strong background in computer science, bioinformatics or comparable discipline. Fluent spoken and written English is expected. Your technical expertise is complemented by essential soft skills: the ability to communicate and work in teams, flexibility and targeted action.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
