Research Group Medical Systems Biology, Institute of ExperimentalMedicine/Christian Albrechts University of Kiel (CAU)
The University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein is one of the largest university hospitals in Europe with more than 80 clinics and institutes. It offers outstanding medical treatment and excellence in research and education with nearly 12,500 employees, 2,600 patient beds and more than 100,000 hospitalized patients, 240,000 outpatient cases and in excess of 3,000 births a year. We provide top research at the interface of medicine, science and technology and maintain research co-operations with universities all over the world. We are looking for competent support to strengthen our research group in Kiel as soon as possible.

Your role:
As part of the excellence cluster "Inflammation at Interfaces", our highly interdisciplinary research group "Medical Systems Biology" at the Institute of Experimental Medicine focuses on the hypothesis-driven analysis of high-throughput experimental data sets in the context of microbiology, aging and inflammation. Joining our research group in the excellent research environment at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel, you will be responsible for the analysis of large-scale experimental data sets (genomic, transcriptomic, metabolomics) with the aim to discover marker proteins that distinguish different phenotypic variants of commensal as well as uropathogenic
Escherichia coli. Moreover, the metabolic adaptation in these different phenotypic states will be investigated. The project is part of a tripartite collaboration between the University of Kiel, the University of Southern Denmark (Odense, DK) and the University of Lübeck, combining experimental, clinical and theoretical Groups.

Your Profile:
You should have a degree in bioinformatics, systems biology, molecular biology or a related field and possess excellent programming skills (R, Perl, Python, C/C++ or Java) as well as knowledge of Linux. Additionally, you have gained experience in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, genome sequencing), in constraint-based metabolic modelling and statistics. Basic experience in microbial cultivation as well as in sample preparation for sequencing is advantageous. As you will work in an international group, strong communication skills in English are also necessary.

We offer:
This is a fixed-term position ending on 31 May 2019 with the option of extension by another year. Weekly working time is 100% of a full-time position (currently 38,50 hours per week) for a postdoctoral researcher (m/f) and 75% of a full-time position for a PhD student (m/f). Salary will be, depending on qualifications, according to the German salary scale 13 TV-L. The University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein is an equal opportunity employer. People with disabilities will be given preference in case of equal qualifications.
